Epoxy zinc-rich primer is a common type of industrial anti-corrosion primer, offering excellent cathodic protection and adhesion. It is widely used in anti-corrosion applications for steel structures, bridges, ships, and more.
Key features of epoxy zinc-rich primer: Uses epoxy resin as the base and zinc powder as the primary anti-corrosive pigment. Provides cathodic protection by allowing zinc to corrode preferentially, thereby safeguarding the steel substrate. Offers strong adhesion for a secure bond with steel surfaces. Delivers excellent water resistance and salt spray resistance. Ideal as a primer in heavy-duty anti-corrosion coating systems.
Application: Zinc-rich epoxy primer is designed for corrosion protection of steel structures in atmospheric and marine environments. Commonly used in bridges, ships, offshore platforms, petrochemical facilities, and power infrastructure. Suitable for C3–C5 corrosion resistance categories per ISO 12944.
Construction Notes: Blast clean the steel surface to Sa2.5 standard. Maintain ambient temperature between 5-40°C and relative humidity below 85%. Apply a dry film thickness of 60-80μm. Immediately apply intermediate and topcoats after priming to prevent zinc powder oxidation.
Recommended coating system: Epoxy zinc-rich primer + Epoxy iron oxide intermediate coat + Polyurethane/Fluorocarbon topcoat. This is the most common heavy-duty anti-corrosion system, providing over 20 years of service life.
The epoxy zinc-rich primer in the CASUL steel structure coating series meets national standards for zinc content, providing reliable cathodic protection for steel structures.
